What is PRINCE2

“PRINCE, which stands for Projects in Controlled Environments, is a project management method covering the organisation, management and control of projects. PRINCE was first developed by the Central Computer and Telecommunications Agency (CCTA) in 1989 as a UK Government standard for IT project management. Since its introduction, PRINCE has become widely used in both the public and private sectors and is now the UK’s de facto standard for generic project management, not just IT projects.

The latest version of the method, PRINCE2, was designed to incorporate the requirements of existing customers and to enhance the method to become a generic, best-practice approach for the management of all types of projects. The design and development work was undertaken by a consortium of project management specialists, and over 150 public and private sector organisations were involved in a Review Panel which provided valuable input and feedback to the consortium.” (Quoted from APMG).

How does Prince2 compare with PMBOK? “Interestingly, the PMI BOK uses a product-based approach that aligns very nicely with PRINCE2! Nevertheless, the bodies of knowledge set out what a project manager should know, whereas PRINCE2 sets out what a project manager (and others in the project management team) should do.” (from APMG). Therefore, even if you have attended other project management courses, learned complex techniques, but still lack a well defined structure to guide you on exactly what to do to manage, attend this Prince2 course by Info Spec and be complete in project management.

Look at the advantages PRINCE2 brings to your organisation and to you -

  1. Standardised way of working for all project staff - so staff are more easily transferred between projects without having to relearn the terminology or processes.

  2. A large pool of qualified people outside the organisation from which to recruit new staff with skills that will fit those of existing staff. Your skills have international value. In the globalised world, both employer and employee wins with Prince2.

  3. Ways of managing changes, to reduce risk.

  4. Reduced meetings and bureaucracy. Saves time and effort.

  5. Standards against which to compare people's performance. Your abilities get recognized.

  6. Defined roles and responsibilities at each level. Everyone knows what to do and when.

  7. A better appreciation of project risks by all. Leads to better control and less surprises.

  8. Appropriate levels of planning from high level long-term to low-level immediate term. Avoids wasted time/effort.

  9. Separation of management activities from technical activities. An important aspect missing from many project teams.

  10. Info Spec Sdn Bhd’s certified practitioners experienced to help you use an international method in the local context.
